It has been a very long time since I updated this message. I apologize for that, but I have to tell you, there has been a lot more to this project than I ever could have imagined! Fortunately, it has honestly not once occurred to me it wouldn’t succeed. Not even during COVID, not when our Wheatfield house fell through, not one time since August 2019 when I concluded that dogs and all of us need this!

Today, we have our Sanctuary – or what will become our Sanctuary – in Akron, NY. After an exhaustive search, we found our home! As dog devotees, we are determined, stubborn, hard- working and devoted to this cause. And now, that we are getting ever closer to the realization of our dream, our excitement is HUGE!!!

We have so many plans!!! First and foremost, of course, will be the comfort and safety of our residents. That is why my going home at night will be only two rooms away. A state-of-the-art security system including cameras and audio, will ensure thorough 24/7 monitoring. A dedicated Advisory Committee which includes Edward Latson, DVM, and Laurie LoMonaco Newman Founder and Director of her own HOSPICE and senior Sanctuary will be available to guide us with medical and other concerns. Once our dogs have acclimated to their surroundings, they will be free roaming inside the Sanctuary and outside in our large, fenced-in outdoor play yard where they can rest in the shade or nap in the sun. All of our volunteers will receive training from one of our professional dog trainers before proceeding with one-on-one time with the dogs.

Proper, nutritious food will always be available along with fresh water, comfy dog beds, and plenty of hugs and kisses. A wonderful donation from Delta Sonic has made it possible for us to construct our own grooming station and many licensed groomers have reached out to us to donate their services.

The mission of White Whiskers is to ensure the well-being of senior dogs by providing a caring and compassionate option to live out their years, and to offer companionship for humans who will benefit from the special love that only dogs can provide.

Our Vision

White Whiskers will provide senior dogs a home-like setting in which to live where they can interact with other dogs and humans as well. It will not just be a haven for these older dogs, but one that will benefit people through interactions with them. The funding we will continually obtain will enable us to target specific groups that will benefit from these interactions – children, seniors, those who are disabled, etc. – and provide a cultural element to the sanctuary involving educational programs, music and art.
